ABOUT RUDY MILLS 

Rudy Mills was called “Rudy” after his first name Rodolphe. Heis a Jamaican musician that was discovered by legendary producer Derrick Harriott who released his first success song: A Long Story, which was released in the UK on the Island Records label in 1967.

Mills releases have been featured on over 20 compilations, including Rhino Entertainment, Trojan Records, Jamaican Gold, Heartbeat, BMG, Universal and more… 

Recently "John Jones" was used on the soundtrack to the British comedy series Plebs… 

Rudy Mills released the single "Lonely" in 2019. 

ABOUT THE CRYSTALITES

The Crystalites were the backing and studio band for legendary producer Derrick Harriott and included top 60s Jamaican musicians e.g. Bongo Herman, Bongo Les, Boris Gardiner, Gladstone Anderson, Karl Bryan, Winston Wright among others. 

They were extremely productive between 1968 and 1974 recording 4 albums and countless singles and covering many styles from Boss Reggae to Dub. More specifically, they recorded many wild and awesome “versions” of hit songs of that time e.g. JOHN JONES!

Produced and apparently cowritten by Derrick Harriott, "John Jones" was released in 1968 on the Trojan’s label Bigshot with "A Place Called Happiness" on the B side. it was subsequently released on the Rudy Mills Reggae Hits LP published on both the Pama and Move & Groove record labels in 1969. It was also released on the Trojan Records famed Tighten Up 2 L.P. compilation that same year.

With its unstoppable rhythm and its aggressive lyrics, John Jones was a major hit among the Skinhead subculture in the UK at that time. Although it did not chart, its release on the popular Tighten Up series certainly helped the song becoming a cult track then and now... A must!

Genre: rare medium tempo 60’s Reggae/Boss Reggae
